Springfield High coach honored for national recognition by peers

Springfield High School tennis coach Curtis Holland was honored by the Robertson County School Board on Monday, July 22, for his recognition as the Professional Tennis Registry Jim Verdieck High School Coach of the Year for 2013.

Holland received the award at the PTR International Tennis Symposium which was held on Hilton Head Island, SC, in May.

Donna Dorris, RCS Student Services Supervisor, presented Holland with a certificate after reading off many of the achievements from his 27 years of coaching tennis.

Holland, who is the longest tenured coach at SHS, has coached 10 boys and nine girls district champion teams.  In 2007 he coached student-athlete Justin Hamm to the first Region 5 AAA Singles Championship in SHS history.  Along the way, Holland has produced 10 high school players who earned college scholarships for their on-court abilities, including one who became a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champion.

Congratulations to Mr. Holland for an outstanding achievement record.
